The hippest city in California also has its price: everlasting fog.
As the fog finally lifted on Saturday and Sunday we went to visit the Golden Gate National recreation area. The Nike missile Site SF-88 (operational from 1955 to 1974) was extremely interesting, as we got to witness the preparation and (almost) launching of a missile. The mission of the site was to prevent aircraft from attacking the San Francisco area. By the 1960s the cold war strategy had already damatically changed, making the site obsolete, as longer range nuclear warheads no longer needed to be dropped by planes directly over the US.
Almost ending our US roadtrip we travelled down the coast towards Carmel.
